Pets and 55+

Pets and 55+ Living

January 6, 2021

Most people with pets, at least the ones who should have them, know that our pets are our fur babies. The senior population is especially attached and dependent on our pets for the attention they give us and for giving us a feeling of being needed. Almost all 55+ communities allow pets but the type and number varies by community.

Rules and Regulations

It is important to check the rules and regulations of the community before you purchase a home there if you have pets or are planning to become a pet owner.

Fence Regulations

Another thing to consider if you are, or hope to become, a pet owner, is if you need or want a fenced yard. Some communities do not allow fences, some allow only electric fences, and still others allow them but only a certain type. In addition for those communities that allow fences some do not care for the fenced portion of the yard or will charge extra to maintain it.

Dog Parks

Lastly, some communities have dog parks often separating smaller and larger dogs.

The bottom line is to make sure you know the requirements of the community to ensure it is a good fit for you and your pets.
